For both lowering and raising the roof, your MX-5 must be stationary, in Neutral (manual) or Park (automatic) with the handbrake applied. While lowering, also ensure the roof storage area behind the seats is clear. Ensure the rear window demister is switched off and there are no leaves or other objects on the roof.
LOWERING
Locate the roof Top Latch lever near where the roof meets the windscreen.
Press the Lock Release Button while pulling the lever back. The roof should now be released from the locking mechanism. (Inset A)
Push the roof back behind the drivers’ seat, and then push down until you hear a click.
RAISING
Locate the Unlock Lever in the panel between the headrests. (Inset B)
Pull the lever up to release the roof from the storage area.
Pull the roof forward until the Striker meets the Anchor point near the top of the windscreen. (Inset C)
Push the Top Latch forward and ensure the roof is locked into position.
CONVERTIBLE SOFT-TOP MAINTENANCE
Your convertible top is made of a special high-grade material, but if the appropriate care isn’t taken, hardening, staining and loss of lustre can result. Here are some tips for washing your convertible top:
Before washing, remove dust and coarse debris with a soft brush.
Gently clean the convertible top with a mild detergent, lots of water and a soft brush.
Rinse it thoroughly with clean water to remove soap.
Wipe dry as necessary.
Allow top to dry completely before lowering.
Note: Do not wait until the convertible top gets very dirty before cleaning it. Dirt that is there for too long will cause deterioration.
